What's that one thing that you never thought you will do, that unemployment pushed you to do?

Sleeping on the street, With hobos.
I have never in my entire life thought that one day, a hobo will borrow me his blanket to sleep on the street corner together. What had happened is that I graduated this year, So i was newly unemployed,fresh from varsity and I felt I made it, Now the good times are finally here.

So January i packed my bags came to Pretoria to hustle and job hunt,  I was to stay with a friend for few days or weeks then i would get my own place when i lend a job, The plan was simple get a job as fast as i can and then get my own place,how hard could that be? I thought.

Boii was i wrong, after a week of ups and downs submitting CVs ,It was starting to kick in that, actually this is not going to be a smooth ride, This is going to take as long as it could take. So on week 2 the frustration was starting to build up
 because :
1: I was sleeping on the floor with one blanket at my friend's place, we were 6 with one bed.
2: I was not eating most days,because well i did not have enough money and I would say i am fine when my friend offered me food because i did not want to feel like a burden.
3: I l would leave early in the morning not knowing where to go and I would comeback late at night.

Nevertheless i continued pushing and pushing until one day when the worst happened, The landlord decide that our living arrangements is not good, and that some of us should leave. This is around February now.

I remember thinking where the heck am i going to sleep, Should i go home or should make a plan and continue to hustle. Spend the whole day praying for a miracle and nothing happened,

Fine late i go to my friend's place and to fetch my suitcase, we stayed outside talked for hours before i left, Then around 12 midnight he was tired and i was tired, He was trying to sneak me back in, but i lied said i found a place somewhere ,fine he left and i was there all alone in the middle of a city at night, No where to sleep or eat, just me and the suitcase.

It was cold, so i walked around the city a little, until i saw this group of hobos trying to sleep on the side of a building, Went to sit next to them with my suitcase,wanted to cry,feeling angry at God. I could care less what happened to me that night. Fortunately they started talking to me and we talked, told them my story and the shit i am going through and man we clicked, one of them gave me a blanket to sleep and i slept peacefully.

Next morning i continued with the hustle and my pastor suggested i sleep at church in the meantime till get back on my feet, I did that and while doing that covid19 broke out and everything stopped , So i went home since.

So truth of the matter is government is not going to solve our problems let alone unemployment or creating jobs. It's up to us the people to become the answers to our problems. Here is something I propose we try as the youth.

How about we start a National Youth Investment Cooperation ( NYIC).

HOW IT WILL WORK

- First we need help from young people that are employed and whatever number of employed young people we get, we divide them into batches of 100 000 people each.

Then we start, the first 12 months(year 1) we select the first batch of 100 000 working youth:

we sign them up and then they commit  to contributing R150 a month for a period of 12 months towards the NYIC.
This will be R150*100000=R1500000 in a year.

( Then after a year, everyone in the first batch takes a break and we move on to the second batch who will do the same and it will be another R1500000,then third batch and so forth, each batch run for only 1 year or 12 months )

I hope your still with me and clearly understanding me because this is very important.

Now at the beginning of each year, We as the NYIC we go around the country and select or find 5 most promising and problem solving start ups(business) in the country.
Start ups that will be selected will be chosen by the working youth involved with the program. start ups will be selected based off

A) What problem are they solving and is the problem a challenge in SA.
B) What value will be business bring to ordinary South Africans
C) How much employment capacity can the start up take.
D) And many more factors.

One point to highlight, since this is a third world country, the focus will be mostly on startups that have the potentials to become the next PickNpay, or any potential  mass employer like those Moja Chicken guys.

Ok the selected start ups will be given each R300,000 - R1 million depending on the stage the company is at or the nature if their business. And they go and grow, or open new branches, locations, produce new products, increase the employee capacity.

Here we apply the same strategy the apartheid used to grow companies like shoprite, Lets not focus much on the loses however we stay cautious, but focus on what we could build and what could work.

What is your worst or funniest job hunting experience?

I got this job at a call center job at this company in PTA cbd.
-First of all there was no any formal interview held. 
We got there about 8 of us and they told us "okay guys we are about to start with your training and introduce you to how we work and what we do here". Like okay just like that, this should be good.

This was still in the morning around 9:00am, okay then training begins, we were selling hotel vouchers to mostly pensioners and anyone above 35 years of age.

"They give you along list of names with phone numbers and you call them to close the sales, typical sales environment"

This was hard to sell if I am being honest, I called about 20 names and all hung up on me, so I was starting to feel hopeless already and it is not even 11:00 in the day.

At the back of my mind I kept thinking man were is the contract, what am I working for here, then a white lady came in with the contracts and they called us to come  sign. Boiiii
- The basic was R100 a month, Yup, should have said no basic. 
- Work from 8:00am to 6:00pm
- For every 15 calls you make without closing any sales, you will forfoit 90% of your next sale, (meaning if after 15 rejections, you make a sale with the 16th call, that sale does not count on you cause you wasted company time and air on 15 rejections).

In my mind i was like nope this is not going to work for me, my health and happyness,  but was feeling guilty that shit I am giving up, what about this people I came with, if they can do it, maybe I can.

We sign and start working, but now it's 11:50 and none of us made any sale and kept looking at each other some laughing and some hopeless lol.
At 12:00am is break time.

We all 8 of us went to break with all our stuff (I was shocked that they are quiting as well, I thought I was the only one) and never looked back, that was it.

For me personally the environment was not going to be a healthy one, so forcing to stay was going to be a battle.
